Lanes
Ferry
Wastewater Collection, Treatment & Disposal
System Design
 |
Location:
Rocky Point, North Carolina
Project Highlights:
Lanes Ferry is an 800,000 gallon per day
wastewater treatment plant that will serve the
proposed Lanes Ferry development at Rocky Point
in Pender County. The proposed system is
designed to serve approximately 2,000 home
sites, along with a shopping center and related
commercial development. The disposal system uses
an environmentally sensitive approach to
infiltrating highly treated effluent, and then
utilizing collected groundwater to recharge a
proposed irrigation pond.
The treatment system was designed for
construction to be phased in 100,000 gallon
increments.
Services Provided:
BPG provided the following services for this
project:
The design
for the wastewater treatment plant serving
the Lanes
Ferry development is an advanced
wastewater treatment process
using the
Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) process for
biological
nutrient removal (BNR).
In order to control the level of
groundwater on the site, a
subsurface
drainage system was placed at a distance of
approximately 200 feet from the infiltration
basins.
The collected groundwater will be pumped
to the existing and
proposed lakes within
the development, which will be used to
attenuate the groundwater flow by providing
temporary storage.
Finally, the diluted water will be used to
irrigate the open spaces
and recreational
areas.
